Taylor Hawkins tribute concert
Everyone from former teammates to pop stars to great drummers pays homage to the late Taylor Hawkins at his tribute concert in Los Angeles on September 27. The entire show lasted six hours and featured more than 50 musicians, according to the Los Angeles Times, after performing on March 3. And almost all of them appear as accents. (That depends, of course, on how you feel about Dave Chappelle singing "Creep.") Bands such as Def Leppard, Queen, James Gang, Rush, Soundgarden, Mötley Crüe and Them Crooked Vultures came out to pay homage to Hawkins, his former band. , Chevy Metal, Coattail Riders and of course Foo Fighters.
But only guest drummers will be in the series, with the roster of Metallica's Lars Ulrich, Travis Barker of blink-182, Stewart Copeland of The Police, Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and John Theodore of Queens included. Stone Age, Rufus Taylor from The Darkness, Patrick Wilson from Weezer, session players Josh Freese and Omar Hakim, and Hawkins' own son Shane.
Vocalists that night also included Taylor Momson of Pretty Reckless, Kesha, P!nk, Nancy Wilson of Heart, Joan Jett, Miley Cyrus and Alanis Morissette - for whom Hawkins played drums before joining Foos.
"There's 31 flavors here — another drummer, another sweet friend," Dave Grohl said late at night as the Foo Fighters performed with lots of guest drummers. As he told the audience after the show ended with "Everlong", the concert showed how "so many people are connected through one person.
